Jessica Hemmings
Jessica Hemmings, PhD, is Professor of Craft at HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Her research interests focus on contemporary craft and understanding the contribution textiles make to contemporary society; representations of craft in postcolonial literature; and how – and why – practitioners write. Indonesia and Zimbabwe are particular focus areas. Editorial board member for Textile: the Journal of Cloth & Culture (Taylor & Francis) and Craft Research (Intellect). External examiner for the MA Textiles at the Royal College of Art, London (2017-20) and honorary Adjunct Professorship at UNSW, Sydney Australia (2016-18). Rita Bolland Fellow at the Research Centre for Material Culture, the Netherlands (2020-21). Collaborator in the MakerStudioPeda project (2020-24).
