Gary Markle

Gary Markle is a Canadian artist, researcher and educator who uses the lens of expanded fashion to examine narratives of identity and (be)longing. 

He holds a BFA in fashion design from Parsons School of Design, NYC and an MFA in textiles from NSCAD University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Currently he is on leave from NSCAD where he is an Associate Professor of Craft in the Textiles/Fashion Department. 

At Aalto University to pursue a Doctor of Arts degree in the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Practice-Led Research in Design will inform his journey to (un)fold, (un)braid and (un/en)tangle research question(s). Examined with the aid of what he has coined: Anthro(procene)scope to investigate the question “Do we make craft or does craft make us?
